Planning: Lip Sync Tutorial

 Lip Sync Tutorial:

Through this activity I learned that the way the video is filmed is vital. Filming from all angles the whole way through the track isn't easy when trying to keep the continuity. A clip from one angle in one chorus showed the participants doing one movement but from another angle they were doing something else. This caused problems when editing. I also learned that a static camera in a music video doesnt always have a great effect. I also learned that framing is also vital, when the participants were moving around a lot they kept moving out of frame. I found using the space, lack of props and not being able to use a tripod particularly hard. The use of a plain and boring backdrops does little for the effect and quality of the video. They need a lot of planning and care taken to do the best possible.
Creating a music video requires the skill of being able to lip sync and to do that correctly and in time to the track a few new tools in final cut pro needed to be learned - these being the marker tool. This allows us to mark a certain word on the track, as well as on the video. When the same word is marked on both, the markers appear on the sequence and so lining them up together would mean that the track and video are in sync.
The editing of a music video differs quite a bit compared to that of the thriller films we made. One major difference being the lip syncing. Also the fact that the clips are the entire length of the song for each angle instead of a few clips for each shot like in the thrillers. The cuts made depend on where and what part of each of the clips you want to appear and what order you want them in. In some ways getting the editing right would probably take a lot of experimenting and undoing.
